Knowing how to grow mushrooms is easy and you don’t even need to spend so much of your time and money. There are only a few things to learn and if you are a beginner you only need to master the process of cultivation depending on the type of crop you are planting.
You need to prepare all the materials that you need in order to make the start and the whole process easy.
Steps How To Grow Mushrooms
1. Prepare everything that you need namely a five gallon plastic pail, half a bucket full of coffee grounds, crop spore or spawn, plastic wrap and spray bottle.
2. The first thing that you need to do is to get the half a bucket full of coffee grounds ready and if these grounds are too dry then you may add up some water and let it drain out. You just need to ensure that the soil is not extremely dry or wet and that it has a level of moisture that the spawn needs in order to mature.
3. Get the spawn and then add it to the bucket. You need to mix the spore thoroughly with the coffee grounds to do it correctly and the compress it down.
4. If you have generous amount of coffee grounds and spore then you can fill the bucket up to an inch before the top. If in case you only have enough then just make holes within the bucket’s top edge just around the surface of the mixture. This prevents build-up of carbon dioxide on the surface by letting it seep out from the holes.
5. Get the plastic and use it to cover the bucket. Make sure that you puncture the plastic with few holes and once the crop starts developing you can then remove the plastic. The bucket is covered in order to build up and maintain a certain level of humidity which the spawn needs in order to develop.
6. You need to ensure that the plants are nourished with water twice a day with the use of a spray and for two weeks. This will allow the plant to mature after two weeks. It is important to note that the process is only ideal for Pearl Oyster or Pleurotus ostreatus type of crop.
There are many different types of this fungus and each of them can also have varying needs during the cultivation process. Some can develop without light or soil while others require moisture and extreme humidity. The processes may vary so you should look into the type of spawn that you have and the right condition that it needs in order to mature.
